Trailer for AMC’s new series: THE WALKING DEAD!
By David
AMC (American Movie Classics); the television network responsible for the two very best television shows at the moment: MAD MEN and BREAKING BAD, premiered footage for their upcoming series THE WALKING DEAD. The series is produced by Gale Ann Hurd (Aliens, Terminator) and Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, and The Mist) who also directed the pilot episode. The series is based on the image label; comic book created by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore.
Here is the amazing poster by genius Drew Struzan (Indiana Jones and countless other posters- You will know him…):
I have not read the Walking Dead series, but have heard amazing things. I was one of the few that LOVED LOVED LOVED Darabont’s THE MIST. And come on, who doesn’t think THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION is one of the finest films ever made? When Frank Darabont’s name is attached to something you pay attention, unless of course you are George Lucas…in that case you just throw away the screenplay that he writes and you get hold of David Koepp (to write you Indiana Jones 4). Some would go as far as saying that Frank Darabont would have made CRYSTAL SKULL a better film…but enough digression. He is amazing, and you just watch anything he does, just like AMC, it’s required viewing.
The plot of the waking dead, is that a small town police man from Kentucky, wakes up in a hospital after being shot, only to discover a world infested with zombies. Rick, played by Andrew Lincoln (Love, Actually) bands together with his family and a whole bunch of other survivors - and they attempt to survive the apocalypse. The series will deal with the idea of family, and how that shifts when put in a high pressure situation. Other cast members include Sarah Wayne Callies (Prison Break), Darabont regulars: Laurie Holden (The Mist, The Majestic) and Jeffrey DeMunn (every Darabont movie made) as well as Michael Rooker (Of all his famous roles Im going to pick ‘Mallrats’). Impressive cast, Impressive technical specs.
The series is an ode to the George A. Romero (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the dead etc) style of zombie genre films. It’s a GENRE SERIES! YES! And it’s shot on Super 16mm film, so it will undoubtedly look beautiful. Make up effects are by Greg Nicotero (the sfx whiz responsible for the special effects work on Tarantino’s films and pretty much any zombie, horror flick you’ve seen recently) Pimp out his impressive CV at: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0630524/.
AMC has given Darabont and co carte blanche, so expect full on gore and everything else a zombie apocalypse series needs.
This show is one to watch!
Well, If you don’t believe me here is the trailer: taken from a handi-cam during the 2010 comic con presentation in which the footage premiered. Courtesy of Zap2itVideo on Youtube.com.
