Screen shot 2011-09-27 at 1.10.31 AM

So season 7 of ‘ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA’ premiered two weeks ago. And whilst waiting for episode 3 to air, I thought it would be fun to start a weekly recap for damngoodcup.com. ‘Always Sunny’ is my favorite show and I hope you guys enjoy these recaps, as much as I love watching the episode over and over to write them for you.

This article is of course MASSIVELY SPOILERISH! Do not read unless you’ve already seen the episode!

‘FRIGHT NIGHT’ Movie Review: Don’t Believe The Crummy Trailers – This Movie Is Awesome!

fright night why so blu 8

Sometimes these media screenings are funny: Hey let’s go see ‘Fright Night’ an adult rated gory horror movie at 8am in the morning on a weekday? It’s kind of hard to get into that required mood when it’s real early and you’re on a bus before the sun has even risen. But you know; it became evident pretty quickly that ‘Fright Night’ wasn’t exactly a horror movie – it has horror elements sure, but at its heart it’s a dark comedy. A very funny, gory entertaining 90’s esque film – and I loved it! Read more…

‘THE CHANGE UP’ Movie Review: Worth seeing because of the ‘FACE OFF’ factor.

The-Change-Up

Remember that movie ‘Face Off’ directed by John Woo? The one with Nicolas Cage and John Travolta? Of course you do. ‘The Change Up’ starring Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds works because of the exact same reasons as that movie did. The only thing this new movie is missing is some slow motion Doves.

‘FINAL DESTINATION 5′ Movie Review: It’s Better Than ‘Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire.’

This picture is from 'Final Destination 4' - this pretty much summarises the feeling of watching that one.

The thing about ‘Final Destination 5’ is that it is pretty much like the fifth Harry Potter movie. It’s surprisingly good for a part 5 in a series. ‘Final Destination 4’ is pretty much like ‘Harry Potter 4’ in that it takes pretty easy shooting-fish-in-a-barrel-source material; and completely blows it. It’s like the ‘Friday the 13th’ remake: How hard is it to stuff up a bunch of teenagers dying? Whilst ‘Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire’ didn’t have much teenage death in it – it was awful. ‘Final Destination 4’ was awful. Terrible even. So bad that when they announced a part 5 everyone was like: NO! NO! NO! Read more…

‘HORRIBLE BOSSES’ Movie Review: Charlie Day Steals The Film!

horrible-bosses-jennifer-aniston-de

Horrible, horribly, horiblee, horibli, bosses. However you pronounce them, Kevin Spacey, Colin Farell and Jennifer Aniston are indeed ‘Horrible Bosses’ in this new comedy film directed by Seth Gordon. Gordon’s that guy who made the awesome-documentary ‘King Of Kong: A Fistful Of Quarters’ – and the not so awesome non-documentary ‘Four Christmases’ or as it’s called in Aust-we’re-so-gosh-darn-it-politically-correct-ralia: ‘Four Holidays.’

‘PRIEST 3D’ Movie Review: It’s A Giant Lego House.

There isn’t much to say about ‘Priest 3D’ besides it’s ridiculously awful.

But you know, that isn’t to say I didn’t have a good time with it. Read more…

‘GREEN LANTERN’ Movie Review: Nowhere Near The Disaster People Are Saying It Is!

The-Green-Lantern-movie-poster

Reviewed by Merwyn.

There is a lot to like about Green Lantern. The film which is the latest superhero adaptation in a series of a few planned by Warner Brothers is arguably one of the most daring and bold moves made by the studio so far. Overall, it’s not a bad film. There’s a ton of fun and amazing action scenes but it’s far from perfect either. A colleague of mine shared his opinion; blaming the execution for the films problems, and while I agree with that notion there is a lot about the screenplay that is arguably questionable. Directed by Martin Campbell, Green Lantern is a mildly entertaining film with enough enjoyment for the kids and plenty of awesomeness for fans of the comics. Read more…

‘COWBOYS & ALIENS’ Movie Review: A Complete Disaster That Couldn’t Even Make Good On Its Simplistic Concept.

Cowboys and Aliens

The most confusing thing about the horrendous ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ is that the filmmakers involved did not even have to do much to make it work. It’s simple: just have cowboys battle aliens and make it fun. How hard can it be? Read more…

‘RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES’ Movie Review: A Very Negative Reaction.

UPDATE: There are comments in this review that Jin makes about torrenting and piracy. They are clearly a joke – and are employed to shine a light on certain areas of discussion. If you believe that damngoodcup advocates piracy then you have missed the point (and don’t seem to understand simple concepts of ‘multiple writers’ and ‘individual opinion’ ) And I also feel sorry that you have no sense of humor. And as you can read in the headline this is a NEGATIVE review – and if you liked the movie; then just leave the page. -David.

Editors note: Hey guys it’s Dave here. Please welcome Jin Hien Lau to the writing team at DGC. A good friend of mine, Jin’s focus is in animation and you can find his brilliant stuff here and you can vote for one of his films here - once there go to the VOTE tab and then you will see his film: “Jin Round 2 GRAPHIC.” Anyways,  Jin came with me to the ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ media screening last week and this is his review. I wasn’t that big on the film either, but I was more lenient then Jin was. The following is a very negative (yet enjoyable) review of the movie, if this isn’t what you’re looking for then you can check out a positive take here. Without further, here is the first of hopefully many articles from Jin:

The ‘Planet of the Apes’ series has probably the most spoiled ending in the history of cinema, one needs not go very far in our post-modern reference-obsessed generation to encounter a badly photoshopped picture of the statue of liberty by the beach online. Worse yet, you probably would have heard frat boys yelling out: “get your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty apes!” to each other at school. Read more…
