A Day to Remember are slowly but surely, marking their words and TAKING OVER THE WORLD. With their 4th full length WHAT SEPARATED ME FROM YOU released in December of 2010 is surely the best the band have released.

Now when released I was sceptical, their 3rd album ‘Homesick’ was my favourite record of 2009, so it was going to be a feet to better that record and surely enough the boys from Florida did it.

With relentless touring of the world, and the band just recently making their way to our shores for the 3rd time for the No Sleep til festival, theses boys wont be stopped! They have a headline tour of the UK in February and a headline tour of the US in March/April, for which I have the pleasure of seeing and reviewing their first show of the tour in Philadelphia.

What Separates ME from You is a stand on the bands progression over the years, it has a hint of every album they have currently made and turned into this modern piece of catchy POP PUNK songs with hints of hardcore influence.

With songs like ‘2nd Sucks’, ‘Sticks and Bricks’ and ‘You be Tails, Ill be Sonic’ are the more heavy songs on the album, with Jeremy’s strong vocals both melodic and scream theses songs are bound to get the sweaty emo kids moshing. with huge breakdowns.

This album is a lot of melodic then ‘Homesick’ with songs like ‘All I Want’ and ‘Its Complicated’, but all songs have the traditionally sing-along lyrics and pop punk mentally of the style the lyrics are written.

With the boys suggesting that they will be back on our shores in 2011, be sure to check out all their sites and below will feature their in video for “All I want”.

‘GORILLAZ’ Concert and album Review: Sydney 16th December 2010 and ‘THE FALL’ album.

There are only few words that can describe the Gorillaz and their show, I would use words like “GENIUS” and “GOD LIKE”, theses are the only words that can be said about the Gorillaz performance at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on the 16/12/2010.

I was granted the pleasure to have ground floor standing ticket, with friends in toe dancing the night away, I stood there in a trance with a feeling of not blinking or breathing and taking in ‘Albarn and his God like presence.’

The night began with Little Dragon and De La Soul supporting and getting the crowd ready for the experience of a lifetime.

From the late 90’s musician Damon Albarn and British cartoonist Jamie Hewlett began the creation the worlds most successful viral bands, named the Gorillaz, featuring a four piece band with the names, ‘2D, Murdock, Russell and Noodles’. 10 years later the band finally reached Australian shores on their current world tour promoting the newest record ‘Welcome to the Plastic Beach’.

Albarn and his entourage of members were a staggering 25 or more performers, this created a sense of community and unity on stage, with the notion of how many hours rehearsing goes in to such a performance, due to the sheer ‘tightness’ of the performance. With Albarn’s band being all session players, this line-up was far the best, with Mick Jones and Paul Simonon from the Clash on guitar and bass. This was the first the two have played together since the Clash, that in itself was a highlight. Considering their age the two were amazing, especially Simonon, he was amazing to watch.

Not to mention that every song encompassed a video to suit, so if you chose not to watch the performers, you would just catch yourself staring at the screen and seeing the height of animation technology unravel before your eyes.

Since their first tour down under, Albarn has released a one off digital record, it was released for free on the Gorillaz website on Christmas Day. The album was created on Albarn’s IPAD while touring the US in 2010. With 15 tracks in total and the rumour has it that it was created with only 14 Apps for the ipad and 4 external instruments.

Again Albarn is pushing the limits of the music with technology and the question is posed, is he a GOD from the future? Or is he just a man that knows what the F*$K he is doing and is a pure genius 10 years ahead of his time. Either way everyone, myself included are saddened of the 2011 hiatus, but at the same time excited about what the future holds for Albarn and the Gorillaz.

Trent’s review of the album: ‘THERE IS A HELL BELIEVE ME I’VE SEEN IT, THERE IS A HEAVEN LETS KEEP IT A SECRET’ by ‘Bring Me The Horizon’.

Bring Me The Horizon: “There Is A Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It, There Is A Heaven Lets Keep It A Secret”

Don’t let the long title scare you off, the newest instalment by English lads ‘Bring Me the Horizon’ has left jaws dropping to the ground. Even though this is a review I cannot put into words how amazing this album is, other to say it’s a stroke of pour Hardcore/Metal genius. With a new line-up including Australia’s own Jona Weinhofen (EX I Killed the Prom Queen) there’s a definite Jona input into this masterpiece. On the first listen it became strange to me that a band, who has respectively been to together for many years has wrote a ‘mature’, and did I mention genius piece of work, that could be easily mistaken for a band spanning a 40 year career.

The opening track just seals you in, “Crucify Me” is in a way a working continuation of the last track of their second album Suicide Season, the naming track “Suicide Season”. But its not a direct continuation, it feels like a evolution of pieces, the first time I heard this it was a big ‘F*ck off” due to the massive overwhelming magic that hit me, this has not happen to me in a long time and it put me off. (In a good way)

With many special guests helping the lads on the record and my favorite is a talented musician “Lights”. She brings a sense of ‘Epic-ness’ into the tracks that she performs on, even though the tracks are epic pieces of work, her voice as best described as ‘haunting’, sending shivers down your spine, but strangely feeling you don’t want to stop.

With tracks like “It Never Ends” and “F*ck” have the traditional BMTH breakdowns and riffs, that’s the continuation from Suicide Seasons, but with that evolution that I keep talking about. BMTH has mixed things up with including ‘choir’ like voices in breakdowns and through the chorus on most songs, especially evident in “It Never End” where the breakdown is happening and suddenly stops and has a ‘Fu*king Creepy’ haunting sound just for a split second, then the massive breakdown continued.

As wanting to keep this first post short and sweet, I could easily write another 10 paragraphs on each and every song, but I’m going to get the know the songs a bit better and then describe, analyze and share the love of every genius track that BMTH has produced on “There Is A Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It, There Is A Heaven Lets Keep It A Secret”.

If you’re current, past or a fan of this genre of music I advise strongly to buy, you will not be disappointed!

The album is available through Shock and can be picked up at all major retailers and from online stores like iTunes.
